Here are a few classroom routines and details, as explained in a memo sent home earlier in the school year.
ROUTINES -
Agendas
Students will be using a student agenda each and every day. At the end of each day, students will be asked to check that their agenda is filled out. Homework, notices and results from tests and quizzes will be noted. Parents are then asked to review these items with their child and then initial or sign the agenda on that day’s entry. Agendas will be checked each morning to verify that students have shared them with parents. This is a great way to ensure that you are informed about what your son/daughter is doing in school and what they are asked to do for homework. Should you have any comments which you wish me to receive, please feel free to jot them down in the agenda. I encourage students to take the responsibility to ensure that they approach their parent and that the parent does not have to initiate this process. The practice of using an organizational tool is a life skill that the students will require as they move onto middle school. Let’s practise now!
Gym Strip
For hygiene purposes, students are required to have a change of clothing for gym class. This consists of a t-shirt, shorts or sweat pants, running shoes and a bag to hold gym attire. Our scheduled gym times will be Tuesdays and Fridays. Please come with gym strip ready on those days. In addition, students will need inside shoes/runners when the weather causes our footwear to become so wet or dirty that a quick wipe on the doormat is no longer working to keep our floors clean.
Snack Time
Students wishing to snack during our morning snack time are asked to bring a fresh fruit or vegetable to enjoy. Once they've eaten this, if they are still hungry, they may select more from their lunch bags. Thank-you for helping us stick to our “class snack rule”. Students are asked to bring a full water bottle to school each day. Water is available at the school to refill as needed. I ask students to take their bottle home each day to be washed and refilled.
Reading Records
Students are asked to spend about 20 minutes each day out of school time reading for their enjoyment and recreation. Parents are then asked to initial the monthly calendar in the student agenda for each day that reading takes place. Students should select a variety of materials to read. I encourage them to select materials that appeal to them, but challenge them to try new things as well!
Drills and Assessments
Three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), students will work on Math Drills. This is a four minute drill where students are progressing at their own rate through the times tables.
A weekly Math assessment will take place focusing on the previous week’s work and concepts. We call this assessment the I CAN FRIDAY.
Students are encouraged to use the study guides that are often available on my website . I try to keep this site up-to-date, however, it is the students' responsibility to remember to bring home the materials they need to study and complete home practice. The information provided on this website is a courtesy, and may not always be available.
Library
Our book exchange day will take place Fridays.

Staff
Mrs. Bomford is our classroom C.E.A. and is looking forward to supporting the students with their learning throughout the year. We are lucky to have the opportunity to work with a variety of different teachers throughout the school year. Mr. Smith will be teaching the students P.E. and Mrs. Wong will be teaching Music and Drama. Mrs. Horning is our teacher-librarian and we look forward to working with her throughout the year.
I look forward to meeting you and working together with you to make this a great year for your child! Please call me at the school or email me using the contact page should you have any questions or concerns at any time throughout the year.
